The role of Practice Leader, Cybersecurity, is pivotal to the Cybersecurity Service Area at Omdia. The team has grown rapidly over recent time as a result of considerable Informa investment in the service area, and this expansion continues. This role will support not only management and development of the team but also the strategic development of the entire service area to deliver results across the subscription and custom research offering.
The Omdia Cybersecurity Service Area covers the topics of: data security; identity, authentication, access; infrastructure security; security operations; IoT security; and enterprise security management. The research has a quantitative foundation with qualitative insights built from and around that data foundation. Working closely with Black Hat and Dark Reading in the Cybersecurity Pillar supports both syndicated and custom research, and likewise there is the opportunity to work closely with these brands in delivery of content to their extensive audiences to further the Omdia Cybersecurity brand.
The Practice Leader is also required to engage with prospects to showcase the capabilities of the group, as well as the opportunity to engage with clients, providing insights gained from research. Importantly, the role also includes the opportunity for “hands-on” research, enabling the successful candidate to do their own research and publish under their own name.
The position is suited to an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and collaborative person who can express considered and bold views through thought-provoking research and analysis to a mixed audience of technical end users through senior industry executives. Interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work as part of a global team are essential.
Key Responsibilities and main Activities
Team management: Line management of up to 6 team members in the Cybersecurity Service Area. The focus is on helping shape the workload, ensuring delivery for clients, supporting team members, encouraging personal development, and planning research.
Strategic development: Working with the Senior Director and Product Management, help develop direction and strategy for the team. Through the understanding of client needs based on senior-level relationships, develop a customer-based view for the Cybersecurity Service Area.
Deliver insightful research: Support the creation of high-quality research in the form of reports, trackers, forecasts, and presentations. Work with analysts to develop and test hypotheses that test existing beliefs within a market to provide unique insight. Use all the tools and knowledge at your disposal to produce analysis that goes beyond the descriptive to give Omdia the edge over its competition. Apply the same approach to your own research.
Market high-level industry expertise: Use your expertise and experience to define and expand an area of research. Market that expertise at a senior level within our clients and prospects. Provide a timely response to market events and offer up-to-date views founded on broad-based experience.
Build and maintain client relationships: Over time, and as your career progresses, build and maintain a network of client relationships. Become a trusted advisor to these clients over time.
Ensure effective client management: Build and develop ongoing relationships with clients. Represent Omdia, the Cybersecurity Pillar, and Informa Tech, demonstrating your expertise in the overall area of cybersecurity. Support sales, marketing, product management, and PR teams. Participate in client-facing meetings with the sales team and add credibility to Omdia, Cybersecurity Pillar, and Informa Tech relationships.
Team management, with the ability to engage directly with team members to deliver results for clients; build a climate where feedback and review of decisions and practices is part of everyday working.
Team development, to enhance and invest in a coaching environment focused on long-term performance, personal/team strengths and development areas, linking them to current and future corporate strategy.
Quantitative research, with the ability to understand the maintenance and development of market forecasts and trackers, and present complex concepts and trends from data in a compelling manner.
Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex ideas.
Strong verbal communication and presentation skills, including a personable manner and the confidence to present to, engage with, and influence executives at the highest levels of the industry.
At least three years of relevant experience working in the fields of cybersecurity research, ideally within the research and analysis community
The ability to quickly and coherently identify and communicate critical issues impacting the commercial performance of Omdia’s vendor clients across the cybersecurity market.
The ability to build and enhance a profile with industry contacts and opinion formers.
Experience of working with sales and marketing teams to identify and successfully capitalize on business development opportunities.
A demonstrable track record of managing a workload to ensure deadlines are met and client expectations are exceeded.
